Annual “Supper Bowl”: 60 Meals Donated for Every Point Scored
The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani turned Super Bowl Sunday into not just a chance to watch the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots play for the championship. Founder and owner Jacob Emrani partnered with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank as host of the annual “Supper Bowl”. The initiative provides meals to people in need in Los Angeles.
Jacob committed to donating 60 meals for every point scored during the 60th Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8.
Food insecurity is a major concern for households across Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. A high-scoring game could translate into thousands of meals for families who need the support. The joint initiative provides immediate assistance in local communities where access to high-quality, nutritious food is challenging, especially for lower-income households.
Hunger Remains a Big Issue in L.A. County
In 2024, 1 in 4 households (about 832,000) in Los Angeles County struggled to put food on the table, according to USC Dornsife’s Understanding America Study. The same research also found that 29% of households lack access to nutritious dietary options. High costs and cuts to local food assistance programs have contributed to these challenges.
About 41% of low-income households surveyed during the study experienced food insecurity (by comparison, 27% did before the Covid-19 pandemic). The current number compares to the latest national average of 14%. However, higher-income residents represent an increasing proportion of those in the region who are considered food insecure.
Fighting to Keep Los Angeles County Nourished
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank supports communities through donations, volunteers, and a network of local food pantries and partner agencies. Operating since 1973, it offers the CalFresh Outreach Program to help people access federal benefits and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors. It also operates local children’s nutrition programs.
In addition, the Food Bank distributes perishable foods, including fruits and vegetables, to over 600 agencies in the county via its refrigerated truck. The organization’s Mobile Food Pantry provided food to 500,000+ households in 2023.
