From injuries and fatalities to fires, it was an active week on California roads.

1. Pedestrian Killed by Hit & Run Accident in Westwood, Los Angeles

KTLA reported Jeffery David Cook, 39, was killed in a hit-and-run crash on December 17 on Sunset Boulevard, east of Beverly Glen Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the vehicle was heading east as Cook was crossing Sunset Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. A $50,000 reward for information leading to the driver’s capture and conviction was being offered by the city, at the time of this writing.

2. Jaywalking teenagers injured in Chula Vista, San Diego

Onscene.tv reported that two teenage girls were hospitalized after being hit by a car and seriously injured. At the time of the crash, they were jaywalking near the intersection of Terra Nova Drive and East H Street. The incident occurred around 3:40 pm. Struck at a high rate of speed, the girls were transported to a local hospital with major trauma, according to firefighter paramedics. The crash was still under investigation and police weren’t clear on whether the driver would be charged.

3. KiwiBot Bursts to Flame in Berkeley, CA

According to The verge, on Friday, December 14, an autonomous food delivery robot caught fire on a walkway in Berkeley. No one was harmed and a passerby extinguished the fire. Kiwi, a startup company that manages a fleet of similar robots, suspended service pending an investigation. In a statement, the company stated it believed the fire was caused by a faulty battery that was installed improperly. The KiwiBots are used to carry food orders from a restaurant counter to the street, where they’re picked up by a courier, and then re-launched close to the customer’s location.

4. Bicyclist Killed After Colliding with Car in Fresno, CA

The Fresno Bee reported that at about 5:30 pm on Monday evening, Alan Keene, 75, was killed when his bicycle collided with a car near Roeding Park, at the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Olive Avenue. Reports state Keene was riding east on Olive when he crashed into the car driving perpendicular to him. The bicyclist failed to stop when he approached the intersection.

5. Tesla Catches Fire in Los Gatos, CA

On Tuesday night, firefighters responded to reports of a Tesla Model S on fire in Los Gatos. According to a Business Insider Report, the fire began minutes after it was towed to a Dick’s Auto, a repair shop at 888 Camden Avenue. Authorities reported the car had ignited earlier in the day following a flat tire. According to reports, the fire appeared to come from the vehicle’s battery packs. No injuries were reported, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Another Model S caught fire in June, driven by British director Michael Morris in Los Angeles.

6. Simi Valley Crossing Guard Killed in Crash

On Tuesday, a 62-year-old crossing guard was killed in a three-vehicle crash at Los Angeles and Socrates Avenues. KTLA reported that the crash occurred just before 2:00 pm, according to a Simi Valley police sergeant. After being stuck by a blue 2013 Chevy Cruze at the northwest corner of the intersection, the woman was transported to a local trauma center. Authorities were notified of her death two hours later.

7. Car Stuck Under Big Rig Truck in Valencia, CA

At about 10:20 pm on Tuesday night, a crash involving a big rig and car was reported on the southbound lanes of I-5, near Magic Mountain Parkway. The car was lodged underneath the trailer, according to reports. Firefighters were able to cut the person free from the wrecked sedan using the jaws of life, who was then treated at a local trauma center. The truck driver was not injured and authorities were still investigating the accident.
