4 Dead, 2 Wounded in Garden Grove, Santa Ana Stabbing Spree; Man Arrested

Wednesday, August 7 (CBS Los Angeles) – Following a violent stabbing and robbery spree on Wednesday, a 33-year-old man was arrested in Santa Ana. Four people were left dead, according to police, in a rampage that began at a little after 4:00 p.m. These include two men at a Garden Grove apartment complex, while one man was fatally stabbed at a Subway restaurant in Santa Ana. A woman was also stabbed at a Garden Grove insurance business, while another man was assaulted at a Chevron gas station. Both were listed in critical condition. Police say the victims were chosen at random.

5 Freeway Crash: Overturned Tanker Shuts Down All NB Lanes in Atwater Village, Snarls Traffic for Miles

Thursday, August 8 (ABC 7) – A tanker crashed on the 5 Freeway shortly after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in Atwater Village, near Griffith Park, in Los Angeles. According to authorities, all northbound lanes were closed for 11 hours. The overturned big rig was the only vehicle involved in the crash. According to California Highway Patrol investigators, the driver swerved to avoid a car ahead of him. The tanker was holding 7,500 gallons of fuel (10 gallons spilled on the freeway) and no one was injured.

Pedestrian In Critical Condition Following Hit-And-Run In South LA

Tuesday, August 6 (CBS Los Angeles) – A hit-and-run in South Los Angeles left a pedestrian in critical condition on Tuesday night. The 15-year-old boy was riding a bicycle when he was hit at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Woodlawn Avenue shortly after 9:00 p.m. He was dragged 1,000 feet down the road, according to police, who were looking for a 2007 or 2008 dark blue or green Honda Accord. The vehicle is said to have tinted windows and damage to its front end.

Suspected DUI SUV Driver Allegedly Drives Wrong Way, Kills 4 People on 2 Motorcycles

Monday, August 5 (NBC Los Angeles) – Jazmin Paramo, 24, was charged with a DUI after driving the wrong way and crashing her SUV into two motorcycles this past weekend. The head-on collision killed four people. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:00 a.m. Sunday on Highway 65 in Tulare County. Paramo sustained moderate to major injuries and was flow to a hospital for treatment.

3 People Suffer Skull Fractures in Scooter Crashes Since Saturday

Tuesday, August 6 (Fox 5 San Diego) – On Monday evening, a 35-year-old man crashed his scooter in downtown San Diego, and was hospitalized with serious head injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed. The incident happened near First Avenue and C Street at around 9:10 p.m., according to police. It follows two other incidents over the weekend in which scooter riders suffered skull fractures. A 25-year-old man was injured in East Village on Sunday, and a 50-year-old woman was fighting for her life after crashing her scooter in  Point Loma.

Small Plane Crash At Southern California Airport Kills 2, Officials Say

Wednesday, August 7 (Fox News) – A home-built single-engine Express Series 2000 plane crashed at Camarillo Airport at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, killing two people. According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the aircraft crashed just off the runway. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said it crashed about 1,000 feet short of Runway 26, for unknown reasons. The Ventura County Star reported the plane, built from a kit in 2002, was preparing to land at the time.

Simi Valley Police Arrest Ventura Man Suspected of Felony DUI

Wednesday, August 7 (VC Star) – Victor Rivas, 23, of Ventura, was arrested Tuesday evening following a rollover DUI crash in Simi Valley. The single vehicle rolled over with two occupants inside near Tapo Canyon Road and Los Angeles Avenue. According to authorities, a passenger suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized, while Rivas’ blood alcohol level was measured at 0.08%. He was arrested and booked into county jail.

1 Dead, 1 Injured in Mission Hills Crash

Wednesday, August 7 (Los Angeles Daily News) – A man was killed and a female passenger injured when his Mazda RX7 crashed into a parked SUV. The accident occurred at around 9:56 p.m. in Mission Hills around the 10100 block of Woodman Avenue. Reports state the car was found with a crumpled hood and crushed-in right side door. Witness accounts suggest the vehicle was racing with another vehicle before the accident.
