“You gotta do the right thing. You gotta support the fight against breast cancer.”

In an enthusiastic moment with the crowd, he noted, “This is amazing. Look at all the wonderful people out here supporting a great cause. I encourage you next year to join us, make this even bigger, and support an amazing cause…”

1 in 8 Women Are Diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Their Lifetime

According to Cancer.org, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer, and 49,290 cases of non-invasive breast cancer, will be diagnosed in 2021. Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in American women. An estimated 43,600 women will die from it this year.

However, breast cancer is survivable. The 5-year survival rate is 99% for cases diagnosed at a localized stage (as 63% of diagnoses are). Currently, there are over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. And not only women are affected; it is estimated that 2,650 men will be diagnosed this year and 530 will die.

Early diagnosis and treatment are essential. Delays in cancer screening and treatment due to the pandemic could result in nearly 10,000 excess deaths from breast and colorectal cancer in the U.S. over the next 10 years, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
