Stanton Personal Injury Attorney

Orange County

Stanton’s sidewalks and crosswalks produced 24 injured or killed pedestrians in 2023, a figure topped by just three of the 93 similarly sized cities the state’s traffic safety office measures it against (OTS 2023). For a city of 3.15 square miles wedged between Anaheim, Cypress and Garden Grove, that is a heavy toll, and much of it falls on Beach Boulevard. Call Jacob is a Stanton personal injury attorney practice for the people behind those numbers: someone crossing Beach Boulevard to a bus stop, a rider pushed onto Flower Avenue, a driver broadsided at Katella after dark. This page is a directory: who responds, where records come from, where people are treated and where a case would be filed, with what each one means for your claim.

Stanton at a glance

  • Population 40,161, by the Census Bureau’s 2025 count (Census)
  • Policing by Sheriff’s contract since 1987
  • Beach Boulevard is the only state highway in town
  • Serious trauma care is outside town

Stanton has bought its policing from the Sheriff since 1987, so the deputy who arrives at a Katella Avenue or Western Avenue crash is a county employee working a city contract, and the report is requested from the Cedar Street station. A freeway report comes instead from the Highway Patrol office on Goldenwest Street, under its own release rules.

Watch out: Eighteen injury crashes in Stanton during 2023 ended with a driver fleeing, the 13th-highest total in the peer group. Phone the Cedar Street deputies that same day; your uninsured motorist carrier will look for that report before it pays anything.

The SR-39 corridor through town

Inside its 3.15 square miles Stanton has no freeway at all, so the state route that matters is Beach Boulevard, SR-39, running past Adventure City and over the old Red Car tracks at Pacific Street (Wikipedia). It has carried a disproportionate share of serious crashes for years. A city environmental notice filed in 2016 reported that 7 of Stanton’s 8 traffic deaths in 2015 happened on Beach Boulevard, several involving pedestrians crossing away from signals, and proposed banning mid-block crossings between Garden Grove Boulevard and Starr Street (CEQAnet).

A Southern California Association of Governments walk audit on December 2, 2025, together with OCTA’s street checklist, documented three problems on the corridor (SCAG; OCTA):

  • Pacific Street crossing. The railroad tracks sit unevenly across Beach, and vehicles have repeatedly run into the plaza on the northeast corner; participants tied the pattern to the track placement and to speeding.
  • Main Street. No signal, frequent speeding and no crosswalks where Main meets Beach. Quick-build measures have since gone in on Main Street.
  • No bike lane. Beach Boulevard has no marked bike lane along its length, and cyclists and scooter riders detour to Flower Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.

Who is responsible for a dangerous condition on Beach Boulevard depends on which public agency controls that segment, and a claim against any public entity has a six-month deadline.

That is one reason to identify the location precisely: the nearest cross street, the lane and the direction of travel.

Orange County court and the three clocks

Stanton crash victims face three separate clocks. On Beach Boulevard and at the Pacific Street tracks, the condition of the road itself is often part of the story, and a written claim to whichever public owner controls that pavement is due within six months (§911.2). Suing the motorist, or a shopping center that let a hazard sit, is a two-year matter (§335.1), while a bent bicycle frame or a dented fender alone allows three years (§338).

If no fair offer arrives, the case is tried in Orange County Superior Court (OC Superior Court), where jurors who find a mid-block walker 30% responsible reduce the award by that 30% and no more (CACI 405).

Note: Insurers raise the mid-block argument often on Beach Boulevard, where the crossing ban was proposed. It should not stop you from asking about a claim.

What injured Stanton residents want to know

I was hit crossing Beach Boulevard between intersections. Do I still have a case?

You still have a claim. Your share of fault reduces the recovery but does not eliminate it, and the driver’s speed, lighting and attention all count against them.

I was hit near the Pacific Street railroad crossing. Does the track layout matter?

It can. The 2025 walk audit tied repeated crashes into the corner plaza at Beach and Pacific to uneven track placement and speeding, the sort of documented condition we examine when deciding whether a public agency shares responsibility.

My crash was on Beach after 10 p.m. Is that harder to prove?

It can. Stanton ranked seventh of 93 for crashes between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., so after-dark evidence comes up constantly in these cases.

Streetlight outages, a driver’s headlight use, and cameras at motels and gas stations along Beach Boulevard are what we look at first.

I was riding my bike on Flower Avenue because Beach has no bike lane. Who pays for my injuries?

The motorist who hit you, through that motorist’s liability policy; Beach Boulevard’s missing bike lane does not shift the blame onto you. Your own car insurance adds a second layer, with med-pay for bills and uninsured motorist benefits if the driver carried too little.

Can I bring a claim if I was hurt at Adventure City or a store parking lot?

Yes. A fall on a wet platform at the amusement park or a broken curb in a Beach Boulevard shopping center lot is a premises liability claim against the business that controls the space, and the two-year limit governs most of them.

Stanton’s pedestrian and night-crash figures

Stanton’s composite OTS position was 28th of 93, where first means the most victims, yet its walking and after-dark figures sit much nearer the top of the list.

Garden Grove Freeway crashes just south of the city line are worked by the Highway Patrol and do not appear in this table.

Treatment at UCI and elsewhere

Stanton has no hospital of its own. Records for a pedestrian taken to UCI Medical Center, the county’s only adult Level I trauma center (UCI Health), come from that hospital’s records department, separately from any urgent care or clinic visits in the weeks afterward.

Itemized hospital chargesEach billing office

An older pedestrian struck on Beach Boulevard is often hospitalized longer, and the state data show five people 65 or older were hurt on foot in Stanton in 2023. Those additional weeks of care, and any help needed at home afterward, are part of the damages.

Who we represent in Stanton and how

We represent pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and bus riders hurt on Beach Boulevard, Katella Avenue, Western Avenue and the other arterials that cross this small city. On a Stanton case, we obtain the Stanton Police Services report or the CHP Westminster report, preserve video from businesses along Beach Boulevard, gather the UCI Medical Center or other hospital records, and present any government claim within the six-month window. The cases we take in Stanton include:

  • Pedestrian accidents at Beach Boulevard bus stops and mid-block crossings
  • Car accidents on Katella and Cerritos
  • Motorcycle crashes on the arterials
  • Bicycle and scooter crashes on Flower and Chestnut
  • Riders hurt on OCTA’s Beach Boulevard buses or in an Uber
  • Slip-and-fall injuries in shopping center lots
  • Dog bites, and wrongful death claims after a fatal Beach Boulevard crossing

Anyone weighing whether to hire a Stanton car accident lawyer can sit down with one of our representatives at home or in a hospital room at no charge, and our fee depends on winning.
