San Jacinto Personal Injury Attorney
Riverside County
Drunk driving shapes the work of a San Jacinto personal injury attorney more than almost any other local fact. Alcohol-involved crashes hurt or killed 52 people on the city’s streets in 2023 and 57 the year before, and both years left San Jacinto fifth from the top among the state’s mid-sized cities (OTS 2023). Its overall traffic-safety ranking was 10th worst of 103.
This page is a working directory for anyone hurt in the city of an estimated 56,014 people (Census): which agency took the report, which records to request, which courthouse hears the case, where the injured are treated and what each office means for a claim. Each entry is something we check on a new case, roughly in the order listed, and anyone choosing a San Jacinto personal injury attorney can ask whether that firm does the same.
Law enforcement
| Agency | Where | Its role in a claim |
|---|---|---|
| Riverside County Sheriff, San Jacinto Station | 160 W. 6th St. | Its deputies document State Street, Esplanade and Sanderson collisions |
| California Highway Patrol | Area office not confirmed for the city | Has investigated major crashes here, including a 2023 crash that killed a sheriff’s deputy |

San Jacinto has no city police department. Its five-year contract with the Sheriff, running from July 2024 through June 2029, is valued at about $106.7 million. In practice, the deputy who arrives at a crash on State Street or Esplanade Avenue works for the county, and the collision report is a Sheriff’s record requested from the San Jacinto Station on 6th Street.
The CHP becomes involved in some serious cases. When two deputies were badly hurt at Esplanade Avenue and State Street at about 2:15 a.m. in May 2023, and one of them later died, the CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team investigated (ABC7). It is a reminder that the agency named on a report is not always the one that patrols the street.
Records worth requesting
- The 6th Street station’s report, or the CHP’s if MAIT or a CHP unit took over
- The Moreno Valley or Wildomar trauma chart, including CT scans
- Video from businesses near Five Points, State Street or Esplanade Avenue
- Any DUI arrest record and blood or breath results once released
- Your auto policy’s declarations page; the drunk driver may carry only minimum limits
Court and filing deadlines
| Item | San Jacinto detail |
|---|---|
| Courtroom for a larger case | 4050 Main St., the Riverside Historic Courthouse |
| ZIP codes covered | 92581, 92582 and 92583 |
| Rule in effect | Riverside Superior Court order signed July 15, 2026, effective August 1, 2026 |
| Suing the drunk driver or a negligent business | 2 years from the crash (CCP §335.1) |
| A road defect on Ramona Expressway or SR-79 | 6 months to present the claim (Gov. Code §911.2) |
Court routing from Riverside Superior Court. The six-month rule matters on roads such as Ramona Expressway and SR-79, where a county or state road condition can be part of the cause. Fault, when shared, is divided by percentage under California law (CACI 405).
Hospitals
| Hospital | Location | Trauma level |
|---|---|---|
| Riverside University Health System Medical Center | Moreno Valley | Level I |
| Inland Valley Medical Center | Wildomar, in southwest Riverside County | Level II |
Designations are from the state’s August 2025 list (EMSA). RUHS in Moreno Valley is the closest Level I center to the San Jacinto Valley. Your claim is built on these records, so ask the hospital for the full chart, including imaging and the emergency physician’s notes, rather than the discharge summary alone.
The numbers behind the directory
| OTS measure | 2022 | 2023 | 2023 rank of 103 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alcohol-involved victims | 57 | 52 | 5 |
| Victims of drinking drivers 21 to 34 | 34 | 31 | 5 |
| Speed-related crashes | 43 | 40 | 19 |
| Crashes from 9 p.m. to 2:59 a.m. | 34 | 31 | 16 |
| All victims killed or injured | 328 | 274 | 22 |
| Hit-and-run crashes | 28 | 15 | 44 |
A year earlier the picture was starker: only one of 104 peer cities had more people hurt by drinking drivers in their twenties and early thirties than San Jacinto’s 34 (OTS 2022). Because the OTS city tables omit CHP freeway work, they describe San Jacinto’s own streets.
Tip: After an impaired-driver crash on Ramona Expressway or State Street, the toxicology result often arrives through the DUI prosecution, later than the 6th Street station’s report. Ask for the report early and have your lawyer follow the criminal file for the lab result.
Places that draw traffic
A few local destinations explain who is on the road and when:
| Place | Why it matters after a crash |
|---|---|
| Mt. San Jacinto College | Founded in 1965 and based in the city, it adds student commuters and young drivers |
| Soboba Casino | Run by the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians, with a sports complex that hosts boxing events |
| Five Points | The historic town center laid out in 1883, where several streets meet at once |
| Riverside County Fire Station 25 | Keeps a wildland engine, a sign of the wildland edge nearby |

Roads with a recorded crash history
News coverage and state data are the main public record of where serious crashes happen in the city.
Ramona Expressway
Ramona Expressway is a two-lane highway locally called “Blood Alley” and described as one of Riverside County’s most dangerous roads (ABC7). Crashes cluster where it narrows to one lane each way. After a 2018 cluster of head-on crashes, the CHP stepped up patrols, the county added center stanchions, and the county was studying a widening to four lanes (ABC7).
SR-79 (Sanderson Avenue) at Ramona Expressway
On July 27, 2017, a crash between a Honda Civic and a Ford Explorer killed the Civic’s driver and closed the intersection for hours (Patch).
State Street
Pedestrians have been killed south of Esplanade Avenue, where the hit-and-run driver of a white 2015 Camaro was later arrested in Moreno Valley (CBS LA), and south of Ramona Boulevard, where alcohol or drugs were suspected.
Esplanade Avenue
A June 2024 crash at San Jacinto Avenue killed one person (Hoodline).
Cottonwood Avenue at Peppercorn Street
An October 17, 2026 head-on crash trapped three people, and all three were hospitalized (Hoodline).
Mountain Avenue
A driver was ejected and killed in a single-vehicle crash, according to sheriff’s deputies (CBS LA).
The planned Mid County Parkway will end in San Jacinto and eventually link it to Perris (Wikipedia).
Call Jacob’s work in the San Jacinto Valley
Our clients in this city range from families near Five Points to Mt. San Jacinto College students, and The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani represents them after crashes on Ramona Expressway, State Street, Esplanade Avenue and SR-79. When we take a San Jacinto file, the first requests go to the 6th Street station for the deputy’s report and to the stores around Five Points or State Street for video; if the expressway’s design is in question, we file the government claim long before month six.
Because alcohol is the defining risk in the city’s data, we give impaired-driver cases particular attention here. Alongside those, we handle car accident claims after head-on collisions on the expressway’s two-lane stretches, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents on State Street, truck and rideshare collisions, slip-and-fall injuries at local businesses, dog bites and wrongful death claims. A San Jacinto car accident lawyer at our firm can review a crash near Soboba Casino or Five Points the same way.
Our first meeting with a San Jacinto client is free and can take place at home or beside a hospital bed at RUHS. Should the case go forward, our fee is a share of the money recovered for you, and you pay nothing unless we win. Our number is (888) 952-2952; the online case evaluator is another way to start, and it asks where in the valley the crash happened.
Common questions in San Jacinto
Why did a sheriff’s deputy, not a city officer, take my report?
The city pays the county roughly $106.7 million over five years for policing, so the officer who came was a deputy assigned to the San Jacinto Station.
Why would my case be heard in Riverside?
Valley ZIP codes 92581 through 92583 appear in the July 2026 order under the Riverside Historic Courthouse for unlimited civil filings.
The driver who hit me on Ramona Expressway was drunk. Can I recover more?
A DUI is strong evidence of fault, and California law allows punitive damages against an intoxicated driver in some cases. What a claim is worth still turns on your medical records and on the policies that cover the driver and you.
I was hurt in a head-on crash on a two-lane stretch. Could the road design matter?
It can. The county added center stanchions to Ramona Expressway after the 2018 head-on crashes and studied widening it. That history is useful evidence only if the two-lane design actually played a part in your collision. Count six months from the crash date for any government claim.
