Lynwood Personal Injury Attorney

Los Angeles County

Two freeways, a light-rail line and several crowded commercial boulevards run through Lynwood, and the road where you were hurt decides a great deal about your case. Ask a Lynwood personal injury attorney about a crash and the first question back will be the street: Imperial, Atlantic, Long Beach Boulevard, Alameda or one of the two freeways. That single fact points to the agency holding the report, the businesses whose cameras may have caught the collision, and whether Metro or City Hall belongs in the claim.

Lynwood is preparing a Vision Zero Action Plan to end traffic deaths and serious injuries, but its project site had not yet posted a list of high-injury streets when this page was written (Lynwood Vision Zero). The corridors below are the roads that carry the city’s traffic. They are not a ranking of danger.

Imperial Highway and Plaza México

Plaza México, at 3100 E. Imperial Highway, is a shopping center designed after a traditional Mexican plaza, and its cultural events draw crowds on foot and by car (Wikipedia). Event nights can bring drivers circling for parking, families crossing in groups and rideshare cars stopping at the curb all at once.

People on foot are the concern here. Lynwood had 25 pedestrian victims in 2023, 24th of 103 cities its size on the state’s tables, where 1 marks the highest count. Four were children younger than 15, which placed the city 17th (OTS 2023). A crash inside the shopping center’s lot may also raise the owner’s duty to keep the property reasonably safe, which is a premises liability issue and not only a traffic one.

Evidence to request

  • Video held by the plaza’s security office and by shops facing Imperial
  • The Uber or Lyft app record showing the trip, the driver and the timing
  • Contact details for event staff or parking attendants on duty

Long Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue

Lynwood’s two principal north-south shopping streets are Long Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue (Wikipedia). Driveways, bus stops and left turns across several lanes create the classic collision on roads like these: a driver pulling out of a lot into a car or motorcycle that had no chance to stop.

Riders have reason for care. Seventeen motorcyclists were hurt or killed in Lynwood in 2022, placing it 25th of 104, though the figure dropped to eight in 2023 (OTS 2022). When a driver turning left across Atlantic says the rider appeared from nowhere, storefront video and a helmet camera are often the strongest answers, and our motorcycle accident page discusses that defense in detail.

Evidence to request

  • Footage from businesses on both sides of the boulevard, asked for in writing within days
  • Your own pictures of the Atlantic Avenue turn pocket and whatever stood in the driver’s line of sight
  • The motorcycle itself, kept unrepaired until it has been photographed

Alameda Street and the Century Station

Alameda Street forms the city’s western edge, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Century Station is on it at 11703 S. Alameda Street (City of Lynwood). With no municipal police department, Lynwood relies on deputies from that station to investigate crashes on Long Beach Boulevard, Imperial Highway and every other city street.

So the report for a surface-street crash comes from the Sheriff’s Department rather than City Hall. Before leaving the scene, get the deputy’s name and the incident number; both make the later request faster.

The I-105 and the C Line

I-105, the Glenn Anderson Freeway, crosses Lynwood east to west with Metro’s C Line in its median, and the Lynwood station sits between the traffic lanes (Wikipedia). A wreck on the I-105 lanes or its Lynwood ramps is a Highway Patrol case, and none of it shows up in the city’s state rankings.

The station adds its own hazard, since riders on foot cross the same streets that feed the freeway ramps. Someone injured aboard a C Line train, on a Metro bus, or by a transit vehicle beside the Lynwood platform may hold the operator responsible, but only if a written claim reaches it within roughly half a year (Gov. Code §911.2). Our bus accident page goes through how Metro claims are handled.

Evidence to request

  • The Highway Patrol’s number for a crash in the I-105 lanes
  • Metro’s incident record if a train, bus or station platform was involved
  • Your TAP card history, which places you at the station at a given time

The I-710 and freight traffic

The Long Beach Freeway carries port-bound traffic through Lynwood (Wikipedia), and crashes there also go to the CHP. A collision with a big rig is a different case from a two-car crash: the motor carrier, the trailer’s owner and sometimes a freight broker can each have separate insurance, and the driver’s hours-of-service logs become evidence. Lynwood clients hit by a tractor-trailer can read more on our truck accident page.

Riding the Lynwood Breeze

The Breeze is the city’s own trolley, with four routes, 110 stops, a 25-cent fare and a shuttle to the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Metro station (City of Lynwood). Because it is a City of Lynwood service, anyone hurt riding it or struck by it faces the six-month government claim deadline before anything else.

Lynwood’s 2023 crash counts

Lynwood in brief

  • 63,512 residents (Census)
  • 271 killed or injured on local streets in 2023, against 223 a year earlier (OTS 2023)
  • 30 injury hit-and-runs in 2023
  • No municipal police force
  • Trauma care at St. Francis
CategoryLynwood, 2023Rank of 103
Hit-and-run injury crashes3017
Crashes from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.3223
Walkers hurt or killed2524
Total victims27134
Crashes tied to speed3938
Cyclists hurt or killed1551

From the OTS 2023 rankings. Late-night crashes held steady at 32 in 2022, a year Lynwood ranked 19th of 104 in that category (OTS 2022).

Hit-and-runs stand out. If the Atlantic or Imperial driver is never identified, you look to the uninsured motorist portion of your own policy, and insurers generally expect the Century Station to have been told promptly. The late-night numbers matter for a different reason: in a crash after 9 p.m., street lighting, headlights and fatigue all become questions of proof.

Watch out: An uninsured motorist claim for a hit-and-run can be denied if you never reported it. Call the Sheriff’s Department from the scene, or as soon as you can after receiving care.

Treatment at St. Francis

St. Francis Medical Center, inside Lynwood, appears on the state’s August 2025 list as an adult Level II trauma center (EMSA), so serious injuries on these corridors are often treated close to home. Request the full chart, including the paramedics’ run sheet, scans and discharge instructions. A long gap between the emergency visit and your first follow-up appointment is one of the first things an adjuster raises.

Filing in Compton

The Compton Courthouse at 200 W. Compton Blvd. lists Lynwood among the cities it serves and handles civil cases (LA County). Because the Superior Court now assigns injury cases by the district in which the crash happened, a Lynwood collision generally points to Compton, not to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown (LASC order.pdf)).

Against a careless driver on Atlantic or Imperial, California’s statute of limitations is two years from the crash (CCP §335.1). A claim involving the city’s trolley, Metro or a County road must be presented within six months first. If a jury finds a walker on Imperial Highway partly careless, California still lets that person recover the rest of the loss (CACI 405).

Our role after a Lynwood crash

We represent Lynwood families, C Line commuters and the people who staff the shops on Long Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue. The state figures suggest the Lynwood cases The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) will see most: car and auto accidents on the boulevards, walkers hit near Plaza México or along the commercial streets, and hit-and-runs. We also handle Lynwood cases for riders thrown from motorcycles and bicycles, Uber and Metro passengers, people hurt in I-710 big-rig collisions, falls on neglected store property and dog bites, along with wrongful death claims for families who have lost someone.

When a Lynwood client calls, we go after three things first:

  1. The deputy’s report from the Century Station on Alameda Street
  2. Storefront and security video from the corridor where the crash happened
  3. The emergency chart from St. Francis or wherever you were treated

If the city, Metro or the County may be responsible, we prepare the government claim inside six months, and if a lawsuit becomes necessary we file it with the Compton Courthouse. Insurance adjusters deal with us, so you are not asked for a recorded statement while you are still healing.

Sitting down with us is free. If we recover nothing for a Lynwood client, that client owes us nothing. Dial (888) 952-2952 or fill out the case evaluator, and if getting around is hard right now, a representative can come to your house. En español: calljacob.com/es.

Things Lynwood clients often wonder about

The driver who hit me on Imperial Highway took off. Is there anyone I can still recover from?

Often there is. Your own uninsured motorist coverage can pay for injuries caused by an unidentified driver, as long as the crash was reported promptly.

Why does the Sheriff’s Department handle crashes in Lynwood?

Lynwood has no city police department. Deputies out of the Century Station on Alameda handle surface streets; I-105 and I-710 wrecks go to the Highway Patrol.

My daughter was hit walking home from school. Does she get extra time?

Her own lawsuit deadline is usually extended until she turns 18. A claim against a public agency still carries the six-month limit, and your claim for her medical bills does not receive the extension.

Is my case going to Compton or to a courthouse downtown?

Generally to Compton. Under the district rule, a Lynwood injury lawsuit is filed at the Compton Courthouse rather than downtown.

I was riding in an Uber that was hit near the Lynwood station. Whose insurance pays?

While a trip is underway, the rideshare company’s liability policy covers passengers, and the at-fault driver’s insurer may also owe. Our rideshare accident page sets out when each policy applies.
