Jurupa Valley Personal Injury Attorney

Riverside County

Jurupa Valley had the fourth-worst overall traffic-safety ranking among 62 California cities of its size in 2023, and alcohol is a large part of the reason. That category alone left 100 people dead or injured on Jurupa Valley streets, matching the city’s 4th-place composite position (OTS 2023). Who gets hurt here depends heavily on how they travel. A truck driver on Etiwanda Avenue, a commuter at a rail crossing on Van Buren Boulevard and a pedestrian on Limonite Avenue face different hazards, and their claims are built from different evidence. A Jurupa Valley personal injury attorney starts by asking which of those groups you belong to. This page takes them in turn, using local data where it exists.

Road users and their 2023 rankings

How to read the table: A place of 1 would mean the most victims among the 62 peer cities. Pileups on the Pomona Freeway and I-15 belong to CHP statistics instead.

Group2023 victimsPlace
Alcohol-involved1004
Drinking drivers aged 21–34477
Pedestrians4113

The city, home to 107,311 people by the Census Bureau’s July 2025 estimate (Census), also ranked 12th for nighttime crashes, 14th for speed-related crashes and 18th for injury hit-and-runs. Bicyclists are the exception, near the bottom of the list.

People hit by impaired drivers

Only three peer cities recorded more alcohol-related casualties than Jurupa Valley. Young adults account for much of it. By age, the city placed 7th where the person behind the wheel had been drinking and was 21 to 34, and 8th where that person was under 21. One of the deadliest recent examples was a crash at Limonite Avenue and Beach Street that killed two passengers in a van; the Jurupa Valley driver was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI (Yahoo News).

Watch out: A criminal charge like that runs on its own track. The injured passengers or their families bring a separate civil claim for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering or, after a death, wrongful death damages.

Deputies made 111 DUI arrests in the city in 2023, which ranks 19th on a table where a lower number means fewer arrests (OTS); an arrest record helps, but the civil case does not depend on a conviction.

Drivers sharing Etiwanda Avenue with trucks

Warehouse traffic in Mira Loma

The Mira Loma section of the city sits beside a warehouse district of roughly 15 square miles that has grown since the 1990s and brought thousands of diesel trucks onto local streets (Grist). A study commissioned by the city in 2014 estimated about 4,000 one-way truck trips a day on Etiwanda Avenue, past more than 100 homes (CEJA). In 2013 a settlement with the state Attorney General required the city to pursue an ordinance keeping heavy trucks away from Mira Loma Village (California Attorney General).

The June 2026 crash at Inland Avenue

On June 1, 2026, two semi-trucks collided at Etiwanda Avenue and Inland Avenue and one driver was killed. The Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station Traffic Team investigated, and Etiwanda was closed between Philadelphia Avenue and Hopkins Street (Riverside County Sheriff). Enforcement is constant: in a single two-week period in 2021, deputies issued 21 commercial-vehicle citations (City of Jurupa Valley).

Tip: On Etiwanda, the carrier controls the electronic logging device data, the dispatcher’s messages, the pre-trip inspection sheet and any cab-facing camera video, and some of it can be overwritten unless a written demand to preserve it arrives early. The categories of trucking evidence worth requesting are listed on our truck accident page.

Drivers and riders at rail crossings

Trains cross Jurupa Valley streets at grade, and the consequences are severe when something goes wrong.

  • In March 2025, a driver was killed when a vehicle collided with a Metrolink train near Van Buren Boulevard and Bellegrave Avenue. The train’s 46 passengers were not injured, although one person was hospitalized (Hoodline). News coverage of that crash noted an earlier fatal pedestrian collision at the same spot in 2018.
  • At Jurupa Road near Van Buren Boulevard, an at-grade crossing has carried 21 Union Pacific trains a day; the city’s grade separation project, an underpass beneath Van Buren and the tracks, is designed to eliminate it (City of Jurupa Valley).

Railroad cases raise questions that ordinary car crashes do not: crossing-gate maintenance records, the train’s event recorder, sight lines and warning-signal timing. Metrolink is run by a public agency, so a claim involving its trains generally carries the six-month government claim deadline (Gov. Code §911.2). Union Pacific is a private company and falls under the ordinary rules.

Pedestrians on fast arterials

Pedestrian casualties totaled 41, the 13th-highest figure in the group. Limonite Avenue is a high-speed arterial, and the city’s November 2021 Complete Streets Safety Assessment focused on two of them: Limonite Avenue between Etiwanda and Ridgeview, and Etiwanda Avenue between San Sevaine Way and Riverside Drive (CSSA). A Caltrans grant later paid for a citywide road safety plan, drafted in 2022.

A person on foot struck at night on one of these roads often faces an insurer that blames dark clothing or a midblock crossing. That argument has limits. California splits responsibility rather than barring recovery (CACI 405): a jury that finds a walker on Limonite one-quarter responsible reduces the award by a quarter and no more. Street lighting, headlight range and where witnesses stood are usually disputed in these cases, and our pedestrian accident page covers each.

Commuters on SR-60 and I-15

Two freeways carry most of the city’s through traffic, and the Highway Patrol, not the Sheriff, takes those reports. Two recent examples:

  • SR-60 at Country Village Road, November 10, 2025. Two people died when a car left the eastbound lanes and struck a box truck (ABC7).
  • I-15 north of Limonite Avenue, August 30, 2025. A four-vehicle crash killed at least one person and closed the northbound lanes (ABC7).

Neither crash appears in the OTS city figures above, so the city’s ranking understates what commuters face. Multi-vehicle freeway collisions also tend to involve several insurers, a commercial vehicle and a CHP investigation that takes weeks to finish, which is one more reason to keep your own photographs, towing receipts and the names of everyone who stopped.

Motorcyclists and off-road riders

Riders matched pedestrians in raw numbers, with 41 motorcyclists hurt or killed, but ranked one place higher, at 12th. Riders face the same speed and nighttime patterns as everyone else, with less protection.

Off-road riding: The Sheriff runs off-road vehicle enforcement in the Santa Ana River bottom areas (City of Jurupa Valley). An off-road injury on private land can become a premises liability claim against the owner, while a collision with a car on a public street is handled like any motorcycle accident.

Answers for injured residents

Jurupa Valley has no police department. Who wrote my crash report?

The city buys its policing from Riverside County, and the commander of the Jurupa Valley Station doubles as police chief (City of Jurupa Valley). Deputies from that station investigate crashes on city streets, and its Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team handles fatal ones.

My crash was on SR-60. Will the Sheriff have the report?

No. Deputies from the Mission Boulevard station do not work the SR-60 mainline; the Highway Patrol does, and it keeps that report.

Where will my lawsuit be filed?

For claims above the limited-civil ceiling, the assignment is the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street. The court’s administrative order, signed July 15, 2026, names ZIP codes 91752 (Mira Loma) and 92509 and took effect on the first of the following month (Riverside Superior Court).

How long do I have to bring a claim?

A trucking company, a warehouse operator or a drunk driver from Limonite Avenue faces the two-year limit of CCP §335.1. The clock is much shorter for public defendants: the city, the County and Metrolink must each receive a claim within half a year.

I was hurt by a truck leaving a warehouse. Who is responsible?

Possibly more than one party: the driver, the trucking company, a broker, or the owner of the warehouse if its driveway or loading area contributed. Each may carry separate insurance.

Our work on Jurupa Valley cases

The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) represents people injured in Jurupa Valley, including Mira Loma families living beside the Etiwanda truck corridor, warehouse workers and drivers, commuters on SR-60 and I-15, and anyone hurt at a Van Buren Boulevard rail crossing. On a Jurupa Valley case we obtain the Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station report or the CHP report, send preservation demands to trucking companies and railroads, and file any six-month claim against the city, the County or Metrolink before the deadline.

When we open a Jurupa Valley file, the first requests usually go to these offices:

  1. Jurupa Valley Station, Riverside County Sheriff, 7477 Mission Boulevard. Its deputies also patrol Eastvale and Norco (Riverside County Sheriff).
  2. The CHP for crashes on SR-60 and I-15.
  3. Riverside Community Hospital, whose adult trauma program the state’s August 2025 roster lists at Level I (EMSA).
  4. RUHS on Cactus Avenue in Moreno Valley, the region’s other Level I trauma hospital, which also cares for seriously injured children (Wikipedia).

Our cases here include drunk-driving collisions, car and auto accidents, truck crashes, pedestrian injuries on Limonite and Etiwanda, motorcycle and off-road injuries, train crossing collisions, slip-and-fall incidents and wrongful death claims.

Whether you were hurt on Etiwanda, at a Van Buren crossing or on SR-60, a Jurupa Valley car accident lawyer here will go over the facts without charge. The number is (888) 952-2952, and the free case evaluation form is available online. Our fee is contingent on a recovery. If you are still in a bed at Riverside Community or RUHS, a member of our team will visit you there.
