Huntington Park Personal Injury Attorney
Los Angeles County
Huntington Park’s own Local Roadway Safety Plan counted 878 collisions, 18 deaths and 1,179 injured people on city streets from the end of 2015 to the end of 2020, and 185 of those collisions involved someone on foot (LRSP). The plan, finished in December 2021, names the intersections and street segments where those crashes clustered. A Huntington Park personal injury attorney can use that list the way an investigator would: as a map of where the city already knew people were being hurt. This guide walks through each corridor in turn.
Corridors on this page
- Florence and Salt Lake
- Gage Avenue
- Slauson Avenue
- Pacific Boulevard
- Alameda Street
- State Street and Santa Fe Avenue
Florence Avenue at Salt Lake Avenue
The single worst intersection in the plan is Florence Avenue where it meets California Avenue and Salt Lake Avenue. Over the five-year study window it saw 22 collisions, with one person seriously hurt, seven with minor injuries and 21 more reporting possible injuries (LRSP). Florence also appears at State Street (13 collisions) and at Santa Fe Avenue (12).
Where three streets meet at one point, drivers have more turning conflicts to watch, and the plan lists automobile right-of-way violations as the leading cause of crashes citywide. When a driver insists the right of way was theirs, signal timing records (if the corner is signalized) and video from the storefronts on Florence are usually the quickest way to test that claim.
Gage Avenue
Five of the plan’s 14 high-collision intersections sit on Gage Avenue, more than on any other street:
| Gage Avenue at | Collisions, 2015–2020 | Serious injuries |
|---|---|---|
| Pacific Boulevard | 20 | — |
| State Street | 17 | — |
| Miles Avenue | 14 | 2 |
| Santa Fe Avenue | 14 | 2 |
| Rugby Avenue | 14 | — |

Broadside crashes, in which one vehicle strikes the side of another crossing its path, were the most common collision type in the plan. Reports for these intersections come from the Huntington Park Police Department, whose station is at 6542 Miles Avenue (HPPD).
Five situations families ask about
My mother is 70 and was hit crossing Pacific Boulevard. Is her claim worth less because of her age?
No. A 70-year-old’s claim is measured by her injuries and losses, and a body that heals slowly makes the medical record longer, not the claim weaker.
Nobody stopped after hitting my car on Gage Avenue. Is there anyone to claim against?
Usually your own auto policy pays, through its uninsured motorist coverage. A relative’s policy in the same home may also apply. HPPD’s report, made promptly, is the first thing that insurer will ask for.
Florence and Salt Lake is first on the city’s list. Does that prove my case?
No, but it is useful. A ranking in a 2021 city plan is evidence that the intersection’s history was known, which can matter if signal timing or design contributed. The other driver’s conduct is still judged on what happened that day.
Who receives the claim if an HP Express driver injured me?
City Hall receives it, because HP Express is a city service. The six-month limit applies.
My son was hit on his bike near Santa Fe Avenue after dark. Does the darkness hurt his claim?
Lighting is one fact among many. A working headlight or reflectors, the street lighting at that corner and the driver’s speed are all weighed, and a minor’s lawsuit deadline runs differently from an adult’s.
Slauson Avenue
On the northern edge of the city, the plan flagged two stretches of Slauson Avenue: from Miles Avenue and Soto Street east to Bickett Street, and from Alameda Street to Santa Fe Avenue, where a person was killed. The Miles/Soto intersection itself recorded 15 collisions, and Pacific Boulevard at Slauson recorded 14 (LRSP).
The Metro A Line’s Slauson station sits nearby, and Metro buses, LADOT DASH, the County’s The Link shuttle and the city’s own HP Express all serve the area (city overview). A passenger hurt on a public bus, or a pedestrian hit by one, faces a government claim deadline of six months, explained below.
Tip: Write down the bus route number and the time you boarded. Many buses carry onboard cameras, and the route and time are what the agency needs to find the footage.
Pacific Boulevard
Pacific Boulevard was for decades the retail center of Southeast Los Angeles County (city overview), and it is still the city’s main shopping street. The plan ranked a Pacific Boulevard segment first among its high-collision segments, with 5 collisions and 10 people reporting possible injuries, and it named two stretches: Slauson Avenue to Belgrave Avenue, and Gage Avenue to Clarendon Avenue (LRSP).
Huntington Park had about 18,246 residents per square mile in 2020, among the highest densities in California (city overview). On a sidewalk this crowded, a pedestrian claim often depends on a witness who stayed. The shopper who saw the light change may be gone in minutes, so get a phone number while that person is still there.
Alameda Street
On Alameda Street, the plan’s segment from East 67th Street to Hawkins Circle had only 4 collisions in five years, but 2 people died in them. At Alameda and Randolph Street, an intersection without a signal, there were 12 collisions, one of them fatal (LRSP).
Two deaths in four collisions is a severe record for so short a stretch. If a commercial truck was involved in a crash here, the company’s insurer, the driver’s logs and the truck’s onboard data become part of the claim, and families should speak with a lawyer about a wrongful death claim early.
State Street and Santa Fe Avenue
- Hope Street and State Street: 12 collisions, including one death
- Florence Avenue and State Street: 13 collisions
- Randolph Street and Santa Fe Avenue: 12 collisions, with 2 serious and 8 minor injuries
- Florence Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue: 12 collisions
These two north-south streets cross most of the high-collision east-west avenues above, so many of their crashes happen at the same corners (LRSP).
Patterns across the city
The state’s 2023 figures point the same way as the city’s plan (OTS 2023):
- Older pedestrians: 11 aged 65+, 1st of 103
- All pedestrians: 36, 2nd of 103 (also 2nd in 2022, with 42) (OTS 2022)
- Hit-and-run injury crashes: 38, 3rd
- Bicyclists: 27, 9th
- Nighttime injury crashes: 32, 11th
The plan lists the top collision factors as automobile right-of-way, unsafe speed and disregard of traffic signals and signs, and it found most pedestrian victims were between 20 and 24 years old (LRSP). Older walkers, cyclists and people out after dark all rank high against peer cities. If you were struck crossing Pacific Boulevard or another Huntington Park street, our pedestrian accident page explains how fault is weighed when a driver insists the right of way was theirs.
How long you have to act
If the City of Huntington Park, Metro or Los Angeles County is responsible, for example through a dead signal, a city truck or an HP Express bus, the written claim is due six months after the injury (§911.2). The driver who struck you on Florence or Gage can be sued for up to two years (§335.1).
Which courthouse hears the case is set by a 2024 Superior Court order that looks to the place of the collision (LASC order). So before anything is filed, we run the precise Huntington Park crash address through the court’s own filing locator.
Hypothetical example: a pedestrian crossing Gage mid-block is struck by a driver doing 45. If jurors found the pedestrian 25% responsible, the recovery would shrink by a quarter and no more (CACI 405).
What we do for Huntington Park clients
The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) represents pedestrians, bus riders, cyclists and drivers hurt on Florence, Gage, Slauson and Pacific, and families from Walnut Park and Florence-Firestone who were injured inside city limits. For a Huntington Park crash we request the HPPD collision report from Miles Avenue, ask Pacific Boulevard and Florence Avenue businesses to preserve their video, and check whether the location appears on the city’s own high-collision list.
Beyond pedestrian cases, our Huntington Park practice includes car and auto accident claims, cyclists struck at night, hit-and-run crashes paid through uninsured motorist coverage, truck collisions near Alameda Street, injuries on Metro and HP Express buses, Uber and Lyft crashes, store falls and wrongful death. Drivers can also read about car accident claims and riders about bus accident claims.
St. Francis Medical Center, a few miles south in Lynwood, is listed by the state as a Level II trauma hospital, while Los Angeles General Medical Center holds the Level I designation (EMSA). We gather the chart, imaging and therapy notes from whichever one treated you.
Meeting with a Huntington Park car accident lawyer here costs nothing, whether at home near Pacific Boulevard or beside a hospital bed in Lynwood, and the fee is contingent on winning. Spanish readers: calljacob.com/es. Phone (888) 952-2952. The case evaluator is a written alternative.
