Folsom Personal Injury Attorney

Sacramento County

Folsom’s crash problem is concentrated on a handful of roads, and the city has named most of them itself. Its Local Roadway Safety Plan, first adopted in June 2021 and updated in February 2025, maps high-crash locations across the city (City of Folsom), and committee and council discussions since then keep returning to the same corridors. This guide takes them one at a time, describing what has happened on each road and what evidence exists there, from the perspective of a Folsom personal injury attorney.

Motorcycle riders fared worse in Folsom than in most comparable cities: the state’s 2023 tables list 26 riders hurt or killed, 15th of 103, against 18 a year earlier. Speeding also worsened, with 65 speed-related injury crashes (23rd) after 54 the year before (OTS 2023). The city’s population has grown to about 91,983, roughly 14% more than in 2020 (Census).

Highway 50 between Hazel and Prairie City

U.S. 50 is the spine of Folsom traffic, carrying Intel’s commuters, prison staff and visitors heading to Folsom Lake. Intel’s campus alone employed 6,318 people in 2020, according to the city’s employer report (Folsom overview). South of the freeway, the 3,250-acre Folsom Plan Area is planned for 11,000 homes and about 25,000 more residents, which means new interchanges, construction zones and more merging traffic.

News reports describe the risks on this stretch:

  • Six or seven separate crashes in one afternoon, including rollovers, between East Bidwell Street and Folsom Boulevard (Yahoo News)
  • A driver struck and killed near Prairie City Road after getting out of his car following a crash (CBS Sacramento)
  • A fatal crash into a pole and guardrail east of Hazel Avenue, handled by a CHP unit (CBS Sacramento)

Freeway collisions here go to the California Highway Patrol rather than Folsom police, and its traffic collision report, with the diagram showing where each car came to rest, is where an auto accident attorney in Folsom begins a Highway 50 claim. Because these collisions happen at freeway speed, many involve several vehicles, and the order of impacts determines which drivers are responsible for which injuries.

Watch out: A second impact after the first crash is a real danger on a busy freeway, as the Prairie City Road death shows. When more than one collision happens, insurers argue over which impact caused which injury, so tell your doctor exactly what happened in each.

City roads on the safety agenda

Six city corridors have come up repeatedly in council and committee discussions of the road safety plan. Each has its own crash pattern and its own kind of evidence.

Folsom Lake Crossing

Folsom Lake Crossing carries commuter traffic across the Folsom Dam area. At a June 2023 study session, the City Council heard that the road had a record of fatal and severe collisions and that drivers were entering its curves at unsafe speeds. Near the dam, a head-on crash at about 4 p.m. killed three people, and police noted that the road carries heavy use between 4 and 6 p.m. (CBS Sacramento). The city later moved to install a median barrier on Folsom Lake Crossing and East Natoma Street (ABC10).

Head-on crashes on a road the city had already studied raise the question of whether the road’s design contributed. A claim against the City of Folsom requires a written government claim within six months, so that question needs to be asked early.

Folsom Boulevard and East Bidwell

City traffic-safety committee materials from May 2024 identify Folsom Boulevard, from the Folsom-Auburn Road city limit to Highway 50, as a priority corridor for safety improvements during the update of the road safety plan, and list East Bidwell Street, including its Highway 50 interchange, as a suggested priority as well (City of Folsom). On US-50 near East Bidwell, a pickup left the westbound lanes and hit a tree, killing the driver (Yahoo News).

East Bidwell is also where the city has separated people from traffic: a pedestrian bridge carrying the Humbug-Willow Creek Trail over the street opened in November 2010 (Folsom overview).

Blue Ravine Road

Blue Ravine Road was also suggested as a priority corridor in the May 2024 committee discussion. Pedestrians have been struck and killed at Blue Ravine and Natoma Station Drive (CBS Sacramento) and near Big Valley Road, including one death at about 6 a.m. (ABC10). Early-morning darkness and arterial speeds are a common thread. In a pedestrian case on Blue Ravine, lighting, sight lines and the driver’s speed are the first things we examine.

Tip: If you were struck before sunrise, note which streetlights near the crossing were working. Outages are easy to fix and hard to prove later.

East Natoma and Green Valley

East Natoma Street, Folsom-Auburn Road and Green Valley Road came up in the same June 2023 study session, with speeding and sight-distance concerns on East Natoma. At Golf Links Drive and East Natoma, a crash killed a 20-year-old driver, and a second person was charged with vehicular manslaughter (CBS Sacramento). When a criminal case runs alongside a civil claim, the police investigation and court record can supply evidence that the injured family’s claim relies on.

Iron Point Road

After residents complained about speeding, the Folsom Police Department stepped up enforcement on Iron Point Road when a speeding car went airborne into a neighborhood sign (CBS Sacramento). A bicyclist was killed at Willard Drive and Iron Point Road at about 6:30 a.m. (ABC10). Iron Point’s problems line up with the citywide trend, since Folsom’s speed-related injury crashes climbed from 54 to 65 in a year.

Riley Street

Riley Street between Sutter Street and East Bidwell is one of the few corridors where the city’s own crash analysis is public (City of Folsom):

Riley Street findingCount or share
Crashes studied21
Broadside collisionsAbout 50%
Rear-end collisionsAbout 25%
Bicycle crashes5, all broadsides

The analysis suggested median and access-control treatments, and a half-mile Riley Street safety project with bike lanes, pavement and sidewalk work was noticed in July 2026 (CEQAnet). Broadside crashes usually come down to who had the right of way at a driveway or cross street, and surveillance video from Historic Downtown businesses can settle that.

Trails, bridges and young cyclists

Folsom’s trail network brings cyclists into contact with traffic wherever a path meets a road:

  • The 32-mile American River Bike Trail runs through the city along Lake Natoma
  • The Johnny Cash Trail, opened in October 2017, crosses Folsom Lake Crossing on a bridge
  • Lake Natoma Crossing, the Rainbow Bridge and the Historic Truss Bridge carry riders and drivers over the American River (Folsom overview)

In 2023, six bicyclists under 15 were hurt or killed in Folsom, ranking the city 20th of 103, after none in 2022 (OTS 2023). A Folsom bicycle accident lawyer looks first at sight lines where the trail meets the road.

Call Jacob on Folsom roads

The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) represents Folsom residents, Highway 50 commuters, Intel and prison employees, and visitors to Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma, and our Folsom practice covers every type of personal injury claim. With the city ranked 15th for injured riders, much of what a Folsom motorcycle accident attorney at our firm handles involves motorcycle accidents on Folsom Lake Crossing, East Natoma and Green Valley Road, along with speeding crashes on Iron Point and Blue Ravine.

Riders are only part of it; as an injury lawyer in Folsom, our firm also takes on:

  • Bicycle accidents at trail crossings and on Riley Street
  • Pedestrians struck on Blue Ravine Road or Folsom Boulevard in early-morning darkness
  • Multi-car and big-rig truck crashes on Highway 50
  • Injuries on the Gold Line or a Folsom Stage Line bus, and dog bites
  • Slip-and-fall injuries in Historic Downtown
  • Wrongful death cases after fatal crashes near the dam or on Blue Ravine

Our first steps on a Folsom file are to request the police or CHP report, compare the crash site with the city’s safety plan and committee lists, gather the Mercy Folsom and UC Davis records and calendar the six-month claim date. A Folsom car accident lawyer here will talk with you at no charge: dial (888) 952-2952 or open the case evaluator. The consultation is free, our fee is contingent on winning, and if you are still at UC Davis or recovering at home, we can come to you. Hablamos español.

Trauma levels in this table follow California’s August 2025 designation list (EMSA). A rider thrown on Folsom Lake Crossing may be treated first at Mercy Folsom and then moved to UC Davis, and the claim needs the records from both.

Six months, two years and the county court

Folsom’s own roads add a deadline many people miss. A crash blamed on the design of Folsom Lake Crossing, a signal on Riley Street or a SacRT train has to be presented to that agency as a written claim within six months (Gov. Code §911.2). The two-year statute of limitations (CCP §335.1) governs the claim against a motorist who crossed the center line near the dam or ran the light at Willard and Iron Point, and a rider who shares some blame keeps a reduced award under the comparative fault instruction (CACI 405).

Because Folsom sits in Sacramento County, a complaint over a crash here goes to that county’s Superior Court (filing guidelines). Its civil departments have been reorganized across downtown buildings, so the specific courthouse is something we verify on the day a Folsom complaint is filed.

Folsom corridor questions

Does it help that the city already studied the road where I crashed?

It can. A claim over a dangerous condition of public property has to show the city had notice of the hazard, and a council study session on Folsom Lake Crossing or a committee list naming Blue Ravine is the kind of record that speaks to notice. Neither one proves the city caused your crash.

Who wrote up my crash near Folsom Dam?

On Folsom Lake Crossing and other city roads, the Folsom Police Department generally writes the report. Highway 50 collisions are CHP matters, so that report comes from the Highway Patrol.

I ride a motorcycle and was hit on East Natoma. Will I be blamed for speeding?

Expect the insurer to raise it, since East Natoma has a reputation for speed. Sight distance at the curve, the other driver’s turn and any witness or camera footage matter more than reputation, and any share of fault assigned to you lowers the award rather than ending it.

Which court handles a Folsom injury lawsuit?

Sacramento County Superior Court, in downtown Sacramento. We check which courthouse and department handle the filing at the time it is made.

My 12-year-old was hit on a bike at a trail crossing. Is there anything urgent?

Two things. Photograph the crossing, the bike and the helmet before anything changes, and find out whether the crossing is a city facility, because a claim against the city carries a six-month deadline even though your child’s own lawsuit deadline is longer.

Road conditions on these Folsom corridors change as projects are built, and this guide offers general information rather than legal advice.
