Firebaugh Personal Injury Attorney

Fresno County

In Firebaugh, people on foot are hurt far out of proportion to their numbers. Of the 130 crashes reported in the city from 2015 through 2019, only seven involved a pedestrian, yet those seven accounted for half of the city’s fatal and severe-injury crashes, and three of them were fatal (Fresno COG). If you are searching for a Firebaugh personal injury attorney after a crash on N Street, Thirteenth Street or Highway 33, this page follows a single hypothetical claim from the moment of impact to its resolution, stopping at each local office along the way, and explains how The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) handles that work for injured residents and their families.

The 2015 to 2019 record

The figures come from the Fresno Council of Governments’ multi-city Local Road Safety Plan, which reviewed five years of reported crashes in each participating city and ranked the locations where the harm was greatest.

  • 130 reported crashes in Firebaugh
  • 6 of them fatal or severe-injury crashes
  • 7 pedestrian crashes, 3 of them fatal
  • Pedestrian share: 5% of crashes, 50% of the worst
RankLocationRecord
Location #1N Street at Saipan Avenue7 crashes, 1 fatal
Location #2N Street at Ninth StreetA severe-injury crash
Location #3, segment #1Thirteenth Street, west of Q Street to the city limitsIncludes a fatal crash
Location #5Twelfth Street at N Street, signalized7 crashes, 1 fatal
Location #6Thirteenth Street at N Street, signalized10 crashes, 1 fatal
SR-33 segments #2 and #3South of N Street to Sierra AvenueCaltrans-controlled highway

N Street, the city’s main northwest-to-southeast arterial, appears in four of those rows. The plan’s emphasis areas for Firebaugh are pedestrian, head-on and hit-object crashes, and residents who took part told the planners about speeding, aggressive driving and the lack of safe places to walk.

Highway 33 and farm traffic

State Route 33 and the San Joaquin Valley Railroad both run through downtown Firebaugh. Outside town, the highway carries farm equipment as well as cars. At about 5:48 a.m. on June 20, 2021, a pickup drifted into the southbound lane of SR-33 north of Douglas Avenue and collided with a truck towing an alfalfa hay rake; both vehicles burned and both drivers died, with the CHP investigating and Firebaugh Fire responding (KMPH).

The town also draws workers from elsewhere in the valley. The seven Kerman farmworkers killed in a February 2024 crash in Madera County had been commuting to Lion Farms in Firebaugh (ABC30). If a grower or labor contractor supplied the van to a Firebaugh field, the injured worker may have a workers’ compensation claim on top of the case against the driver at fault; a commute in a worker’s own car generally does not qualify.

Watch out: In late July, the Cantaloupe Round-Up in Dunkle Park celebrates the melon harvest, which puts more people on foot downtown during the same weeks that harvest trucks are on the highway.

During the same 2023 reporting year, the OTS tables list 48 DUI arrests for Firebaugh, a figure that counts enforcement rather than crashes (OTS).

Questions Firebaugh families ask

The driver says my son darted into N Street. Does he still have a claim?

Yes, in most cases. Even if a jury decided he shared some blame for stepping into N Street, his recovery would shrink by that share rather than disappear. Witness statements and any camera footage from N Street businesses matter most here.

The crash was on Highway 33 north of town. Which agency investigated it?

The California Highway Patrol investigates crashes on the state highway outside the city, as it did in the 2021 crash north of Douglas Avenue, and a Firebaugh car accident lawyer will usually request that report first. Inside town, a crash on N Street or Thirteenth Street is a Firebaugh Police Department report instead.

My employer’s van crashed taking us to a Firebaugh field. Can I still sue?

If the employer provided the van, workers’ compensation can cover the injury; an ordinary commute in your own ride usually is not covered. Separately, the driver who caused the crash, and that driver’s insurer, can be held responsible for the rest of your losses, such as pain and suffering, which workers’ comp never pays.

How long does a Firebaugh pedestrian case take?

It depends mostly on how long medical treatment lasts. Most claims are not ready to resolve until the doctors can describe the long-term effects of the injury.

One claim, from crash to resolution

Hypothetical example. Maria and the crash described below are invented to show how a Firebaugh claim moves through local offices; no real client or case is described.

The crash on N Street

Maria is walking home after dark and crossing N Street near Saipan Avenue when a pickup turning onto N Street strikes her. Neighbors call 911. Firebaugh Fire and the Firebaugh Police Department respond; because the crash is on a city street, a Firebaugh officer writes the collision report, photographs the scene and takes the driver’s insurance information.

An ambulance ride east

Maria has a broken leg and a head injury. Firebaugh, a city of 8,774 by the Census Bureau’s 2025 estimate (Census), lies on the west bank of the San Joaquin River, about 38 miles west of Fresno (Wikipedia), and the state’s August 2025 trauma list names Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno as the only adult Level I center in Fresno County (EMSA). Her emergency chart, scans and surgical notes are created there, far from home, and her family has to request them from the Fresno hospital later.

The early weeks of the claim

A few days after surgery, the pickup driver’s insurer phones Maria in her hospital room in Fresno and asks her to give a recorded statement. Her sister calls a lawyer instead of answering. In the early weeks, the lawyer:

  • notifies the insurer that Maria is represented and will not give a statement
  • gets the officer’s diagram, photos and witness list from the Firebaugh Police Department
  • asks shops along N Street to save camera footage before it is overwritten
  • returns to Saipan Avenue after dark to photograph the crossing under the same streetlights

Who owns the road

The next question is whether the street itself played a part, for example through missing crosswalk markings or poor lighting. If it did, there is a six-month deadline (Gov. Code §911.2) and the recipient depends on the road: a city street falls to the City of Firebaugh, while the SR-33 stretches south of N Street are Caltrans facilities and go to the State. The safety plan’s ranking of N Street at Saipan Avenue as the city’s top location shows planners already knew the corner’s history, but liability still has to be proven from the conditions on the night of the crash.

Damages and insurance

Once Maria’s doctors can describe her recovery, her lawyer puts the losses in writing:

LossProof
Medical billsCommunity Regional and therapy invoices
WagesPayroll records
Pain and limitationsDoctors’ notes, family accounts

Maria was walking, not driving, but her own auto policy’s underinsured motorist coverage can still apply if the pickup’s limits fall short of her Community Regional bills and lost wages. Her health plan’s lien on any recovery is negotiated down before the settlement money is distributed.

Settlement or a lawsuit

The insurer’s main defense is that Maria crossed outside a marked crosswalk; a jury that agreed would cut her award by the percentage of blame it assigned to her, and nothing more (CACI 405). Maria’s lawsuit, if talks fail, must be on file within two years of the night she was hit (CCP §335.1). The case would be heard in downtown Fresno, 38 miles from the crossing where Maria was hit, because the county’s Superior Court handles its civil docket at the Sisk Courthouse on O Street (Superior Court).

How Call Jacob works on Firebaugh claims

We represent Firebaugh pedestrians, drivers and farmworkers injured on N Street, Thirteenth Street and SR-33, and we handle the steps described above for them: requesting the Firebaugh Police Department or CHP report, gathering the Community Regional records, presenting any claim to the City of Firebaugh or the State on time and negotiating with the insurers. From Firebaugh we take:

  • Car accident claims from the N Street signals at Twelfth and Thirteenth
  • Pedestrians struck near Saipan Avenue or Ninth Street
  • Highway 33 collisions involving big rigs or towed farm equipment
  • Motorcycle and bicycle injuries
  • Slip-and-fall injuries on unsafe property
  • Dog bites
  • Wrongful death cases

We can meet you at your home in Firebaugh, or at Community Regional if you are still admitted, and Spanish speakers are welcome (calljacob.com/es). Nothing is owed for the consultation or along the way, since our fee comes only from what we recover for you: you pay nothing unless we win, and the first step is a call to (888) 952-2952 or a few minutes with the case evaluator.

Nothing here is legal advice. These are general rules plus Firebaugh’s public crash records, and a lawyer who knows your facts can say how they apply.
