Dublin Personal Injury Attorney
Alameda County
Dublin’s serious crashes cluster at signalized corners rather than on open road. The Local Roadway Safety Plan the City Council adopted on January 10, 2023 found that 72% of fatal and severe-injury collisions from 2016 to 2020 happened at intersections, roughly three times the 23% share seen statewide (Dublin LRSP). For anyone searching for a Dublin personal injury attorney, that tells you where the proof in a local case usually sits: signal phasing, left-turn arrows, nearby storefront cameras and the recorded history of one particular corner.
By state measures Dublin is a comparatively safe city of 71,602 people (Census). The danger is not spread evenly, though. It lands on a handful of groups, and the sections below take them one at a time, beginning with people outside a vehicle.
| Group | Dublin figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Intersection crashes | 72% of fatal or severe | LRSP |
| People on foot | 28% of fatal or severe | LRSP |
| Riders under 15 | 6 hurt in 2023, 12th of 103 | OTS |
| Drivers 65 and up | 22% of fatal or severe | LRSP |
| I-580 traffic | 200,000+ commuters daily | CHP |
People on foot and on two wheels
People walking before sunrise or after dusk
Pedestrians accounted for 28% of the city’s deaths and serious injuries in the plan’s five years, and 60% of those pedestrian crashes occurred at dusk, at dawn or in full darkness (LRSP). The 2023 state figure for Dublin streets was six pedestrians (OTS 2023). The numbers are small, but a pedestrian hit at speed often suffers the gravest injuries a family will deal with.
Light usually decides these cases. If you were struck walking to the West Dublin/Pleasanton or Dublin/Pleasanton BART station in the early morning, note which streetlights were out, what you were wearing and where you stepped off the curb. “I never saw her” is a claim about visibility, and visibility can be tested. Families of walkers hit near the Dublin/Pleasanton station can find more on our pedestrian accident page.
Watch out: A dark stretch of sidewalk near a BART station or a signal the City of Dublin maintains can make City Hall a responsible party. California gives an injured walker roughly six months to put the city on written notice, a fraction of the time allowed for suing the driver (Gov. Code §911.2).
Riders under 15
This is the figure that sets Dublin apart. Overall, it placed 87th of 103 mid-sized California cities in the state’s 2023 count of people killed or injured, near the safe end of that list. Its youngest riders tell a different story: six cyclists under 15 were hurt, placing Dublin 12th of the same 103, where 1 marks the highest count (OTS 2023). Bicyclist victims of every age rose from 12 in 2022 to 17 in 2023 (OTS 2022).
A jury judges a twelve-year-old on a bike by what a careful twelve-year-old would have done, which is a gentler yardstick than the one applied to adults. The child’s own lawsuit deadline is generally paused until age 18, but a parent’s claim for the hospital bills is not, and the six-month rule for public agencies still applies.
Tip: Keep the bike, helmet and any phone video exactly as they were. Damage to a child’s bike often shows the angle of impact better than anyone’s memory.
E-bike and e-scooter riders
An ordinance in force since November 20, 2025 keeps e-bikes and e-scooters off Dublin sidewalks and requires riders under 18 to wear helmets in city parks, with citations starting in January 2026 (City of Dublin). Expect the other driver’s insurer to ask about both. A sidewalk ticket cuts your recovery only to the degree that riding there actually caused the harm (CACI 405). Riders clipped by a turning car can read our e-scooter injury page.
Dublin questions on scooters, ramps and minors
Dublin is considered a safe city. Will an insurer use that against me?
It may try, but a citywide ranking says little about one collision. Your case turns on what happened at your intersection, and the plan’s corner-by-corner counts can help show the hazard was already known.
A car hit my son’s bike near his school. What are our deadlines?
Three different clocks can apply:
- His own lawsuit, usually until two years after his 18th birthday
- A parent’s own claim for the hospital and therapy costs, typically two years with no extension
- A written claim to City Hall or the Dublin school district, about half a year
Who documents a collision on an I-580 ramp?
Freeway and ramp collisions belong to the CHP Dublin Area on Gleason Drive. Crashes on city streets are written up by Dublin Police Services on Clark Avenue.
I was on my scooter on the sidewalk when a driver backed into me. Do I still have a claim?
Probably. The insurer will raise the ordinance, but California lets you recover the portion of your losses the driver caused.
What if my spouse died in a crash on Dougherty Road?
A surviving husband or wife, children and certain other relatives can pursue a wrongful death case over a Dougherty Road crash, and the two-year limit generally runs from the date of death.
Deadlines, venue and partial blame
| Responsible party | Deadline | Law |
|---|---|---|
| Public owner (city, county, BART) | 6 months | Gov. Code §911.2 |
| The other motorist | 2 years | CCP §335.1 |
| Damage to a car or bike | 3 years | CCP §338 |
A Dublin Boulevard signal, a BART platform or a county road can each point to a public owner, which is why the six-month claim usually comes first. Hold on to every hospital and follow-up bill, since medical costs, future care, lost income and pain and suffering are all part of the damages.
California splits blame by percentage, so a Village Parkway cyclist partly at fault for riding without a light at dusk still collects most of what the injuries are worth (CACI 405).
The East County Hall of Justice on Gleason Drive lists criminal and traffic departments (Alameda County Superior Court). Civil injury complaints go to other Alameda County Superior Court locations, and the right one for a Dublin crash is checked against the court’s rules before anything is filed (court locations).
People in cars and trucks
Drivers at signalized intersections
Nine of the twenty priority locations in the safety plan are intersections on Dublin Boulevard. The plan scored Arnold Road first for severity (59.9), with 17 collisions and two that killed or seriously injured someone, and Village Parkway second, where 43 collisions produced a rate of 0.55 against the Caltrans benchmark of 0.42 for comparable intersections (LRSP).
At a signalized corner the argument is usually about who had the green. A Dublin car accident lawyer will want the signal timing data and any business video before the insurance adjuster has settled on a story. Since March 2025 the city has been fitting yellow retroreflective borders to traffic signals at intersections the plan flagged (City of Dublin), which also shows that City Hall knew which corners needed attention.
The plan’s collision totals for 2016 through 2020 show how heavily one road carries the city’s crash load.
| Dublin Boulevard at | Collisions, 2016–2020 | Note from the plan |
|---|---|---|
| Dougherty Road | 65 | Highest total of the top 20; fifth by severity |
| Village Parkway | 43 | Second by severity; rate above Caltrans average |
| San Ramon Road | 35 | Among the nine Dublin Boulevard priority corners |
| Tassajara Road | 34 | Among the nine Dublin Boulevard priority corners |
| Hacienda Drive | 33 | Among the nine Dublin Boulevard priority corners |
| Arnold Road | 17 | First by severity score |
Other priority locations include San Ramon Road at Amador Valley Boulevard, Dougherty Road from Willow Creek Drive to 8th Street beside Camp Parks, and Fallon Road from Signal Hill Drive to Gleason Drive (LRSP). Fallon Road is also where the planned 1.5-mile Dublin Boulevard Extension to North Canyons Parkway in Livermore begins, a project estimated at $153.6 million (City of Dublin).
Age and alcohol behind the wheel
Dublin’s plan found that a driver aged 65 or older was involved in 22% of the crashes that killed or badly hurt someone. The plan linked impairment to more than a quarter of those deaths and serious injuries on city roads, and aggressive driving to more than 15% (LRSP).
After a crash with an impaired or elderly driver, three kinds of evidence usually matter:
- Police paperwork from the DUI stop, including chemical test numbers, usable in your civil case well before any verdict
- The driver’s medical history, where eyesight, medication or reaction time may be in question
- Your own records of medical care and lost wages, which the DUI prosecution does not replace
Traffic through the I-580 and I-680 interchange
The CHP Dublin Area at 4999 Gleason Drive patrols 57 miles of I-580 and I-680 plus 275 miles of unincorporated roads, and it counts more than 200,000 commuters a day passing through, on what the office calls the third-busiest traffic corridor in California (CHP). None of that freeway traffic appears in the city’s state rankings, which count only crashes Dublin’s own officers handle. Stop-and-go pileups on the interchange can involve several insurers at once, and when a tractor-trailer is part of it, our truck accident page explains driver logs and carrier coverage.
Our firm’s Dublin practice
Given where Dublin’s crashes concentrate, many of the cases The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) handles here begin with a car or auto accident on Dublin Boulevard or the interchange. We also represent pedestrians walking to BART, child and adult cyclists, e-bike riders, people hurt in truck and multi-vehicle pileups on I-580 and I-680, rideshare passengers, and clients with slip-and-fall, dog bite or wrongful death claims. When a client was hurt at one of the Dublin Boulevard corners in the safety plan, we pull the city’s signal records and compare the crash with what the plan already says about that intersection, alongside the officer’s report from Dublin Police Services at 6361 Clark Avenue (City of Dublin).
For crashes on the interchange, we request the report from the CHP Dublin Area office and deal with the insurers so you are not pressed for a recorded statement. The nearest adult Level II trauma center on the state’s 2025 list is Sutter Health Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley (EMSA), and we can visit you there or at home.
Speaking with us about a Dublin crash is free, and we are paid only out of money we recover for you. If you would rather write than talk, the case evaluator takes a description of the Dublin crash; otherwise our number is (888) 952-2952. En español: calljacob.com/es.
We wrote this page to explain Dublin’s crash records and the state’s injury rules in general terms; it is not legal advice for any one person.
