Diamond Bar Personal Injury Attorney
Los Angeles County
Inside Diamond Bar, State Routes 57 and 60 share a single roadway before they split again, and the California Highway Patrol describes the 57/60 interchange as one of the busiest in the state (CHP Baldwin Park Area). Several of the city’s deadliest recent crashes happened on that stretch, where the investigating agency, the evidence and the deadlines differ from a collision on Diamond Bar Boulevard. As a Diamond Bar personal injury attorney, Call Jacob has set out what to do in the first hours, days and weeks after a crash here, and which local office is involved at each point.
| When | Main task | Diamond Bar detail |
|---|---|---|
| Hour 0 | Get clear of the lanes and take the incident number | Freeway crashes go to the CHP; surface streets to Sheriff’s deputies from Walnut |
| First 24 hours | A same-day medical exam | Mention every headache, dizzy spell or stiff neck |
| Days 2 and 3 | Insurance notices and evidence letters | Work-zone logs and truck data disappear first |
| About day 7 | Order the report | Francisquito Avenue CHP office or the Sheriff |
| Month 1 | Watch the six-month clock | Work-zone or signal problems |
Hour 0 at the scene
On the freeway, your first concern is getting out of the lanes. Diamond Bar’s record shows how dangerous it is to stand near traffic. In June 2024 a pedestrian walking between lanes of the northbound 57 at the Pathfinder Road exit was struck and killed, and the CHP closed the Pathfinder on-ramp (FOX 11). If your car can move, follow the officer’s direction to the shoulder or the next exit; if it cannot, stay buckled in with hazard lights on until help arrives.
A crash on the 57 or 60 belongs to the CHP, whose Baldwin Park Area office at 14039 Francisquito Avenue patrols the confluence. On Diamond Bar Boulevard, Golden Springs Drive or any other city street, the investigating officer is a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy working out of the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station in neighboring Walnut, because the city contracts for police services instead of running its own department (Diamond Bar overview). The city also pays for a Special Assignment Team of deputies whose job is traffic enforcement beyond regular patrol (city safety page).
- Ask whoever responds for an incident number, and photograph the card it is written on
- Take pictures showing where the K-rail, cones and orange signs stood relative to your car
- Copy the motor carrier’s name and USDOT number from the door of any big rig
- Get contact details for drivers who pulled onto the shoulder to help
- Keep any talk about blame for later, after you have advice
The first 24 hours
A same-day exam matters even when you climbed out of the car unhurt, because the jolt of a freeway-speed impact often shows up as neck, back or head pain the following morning. For a badly hurt patient, the closest designated trauma center lies a few miles east at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, which the state lists at Level II (EMSA).
Tell the emergency physician about every symptom, including headache, dizziness or confusion. Those notes are the first medical record of a possible traumatic brain injury, and insurers look for them. The brain injury page on our site covers concussion claims that insurers dispute.
Days 2 and 3
Watch out: An adjuster for the other driver may phone before you are home from the hospital, asking to record your version. Nothing obliges you to give that company a recorded account; tell your own carrier about the crash and pass the other company’s calls to your lawyer.
Construction-zone evidence
The SR-57/60 Interchange Improvements Project began in 2023 and is scheduled to finish in 2028. It adds eastbound bypass lanes, replaces and widens the Grand Avenue bridge and redesigns an eastbound off-ramp; the Diamond Bar Golf Course has been closed since 2021 to make room (SR-60 overview). If a lane shift, a missing sign or a poorly placed barrier contributed to your crash, the traffic-control plans and daily work logs for that day matter, and requests should go out quickly.
Trucking evidence
SR-60 carries a growing number of port container trucks headed from Los Angeles and Long Beach to Inland Empire warehouses and rail yards. On February 20, 2025, two semitrucks overturned on the eastbound 60 near the 57, killing one person; the CHP closed three lanes of the eastbound-60-to-northbound-57 connector for hours (ABC7). After a truck crash, the carrier’s driver logs, electronic data and maintenance records can be lost unless a preservation letter reaches the company promptly. For a container-truck crash on the 60, the truck accident section of our site describes the federal records carriers must keep.
Around day seven
Order the report about a week in: CHP reports for the confluence are released by the Francisquito Avenue office, and Sheriff’s reports for surface streets come through the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. Keep a simple file of everything: medical bills, pharmacy receipts, mileage to appointments, rental car costs and a note of each day missed from work. If you were hurt at an intersection the city has changed, that history may be relevant. In January 2024, for example, city staff switched the left-turn signals at Diamond Bar Boulevard and Mountain Laurel Way to protected-only phasing and updated the striping and signs (city weekly highlights).
The first month and beyond
Three legal rules shape what happens next:
- Caltrans or the city: a lane shift in the interchange project or a mistimed signal on Diamond Bar Boulevard turns the case partly into a claim against government, and Gov. Code §911.2 gives you six months to present it in writing.
- The other motorist or the carrier: someone hurt on the 57 in June 2026 would need to sue by June 2028 under CCP §335.1.
- Shared blame: a merging driver judged 20% responsible for a collision on the 60 keeps 80% of proven damages (CACI 405).
Unresolved Diamond Bar claims are litigated in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, and which of its courthouses depends on the court’s district map: a 2024 general order requires injury cases to be filed in the district where the incident happened (LASC General Order), and we check that map for the exact Diamond Bar address rather than guess.
Why the freeways dominate here
Measured by the state’s 2023 rankings, Diamond Bar’s surface streets look calm. The 202 casualties counted there placed the city 42nd of 103 in its population group, and its composite score came in at 89th, where lower ranks mean more harm (OTS 2023). Drinking drivers were almost absent from the figures, with four alcohol-involved victims ranking 101st, and walkers, cyclists and riders were few: 12, 7 and 4. None of those counts include the confluence, because OTS leaves CHP-handled freeway crashes out of city totals.
129,000 vehicles a day used SR-57 between SR-60 and Sunset Crossing Road in Caltrans’ 2013 count (SR-57 overview).
Freeway crashes here can be catastrophic. In February 2014 a suspected wrong-way driver on the westbound 60 in Diamond Bar caused a collision that killed six people and led to felony DUI and manslaughter charges (CBS LA). Interchange changes also shift local traffic: the Lemon Avenue interchange opened on May 1, 2018, and the eastbound Brea Canyon Road exit closed the same day. The city has since received a Caltrans grant to develop a Local Roadway Safety Plan (FY 22/23 budget).
How we handle Diamond Bar injury claims
The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani represents Diamond Bar residents and commuters injured on the 57/60 confluence, Grand Avenue, Diamond Bar Boulevard, Golden Springs Drive and Pathfinder Road. On a Diamond Bar case we request the CHP Baldwin Park Area or Sheriff’s report, collect the records from Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center or wherever you were treated, and, when the crash happened in the interchange work zone, ask for the construction records from that day. Our Diamond Bar caseload includes:
- Car accidents at the confluence, plus auto accident claims from Grand Avenue to Golden Springs
- Collisions with port and warehouse trucks on the 60
- Motorcycle and bicycle crashes
- Pedestrians struck on city streets or, like the 2024 Pathfinder victim, on the freeway
- Rideshare and bus injuries
- Dog bites and falls
- Wrongful death cases
Free consultation. Reviewing a Diamond Bar crash with us is free, and because we work on contingency, our fee comes only from money we recover, so you pay nothing unless we win. We will come to your home off Golden Springs Drive or to your bedside at Pomona Valley; phone (888) 952-2952 or open the case evaluator. En español: calljacob.com/es.
Questions after a Diamond Bar crash
The crash was in the 57/60 construction zone. Can Caltrans be responsible?
Possibly, if a lane shift, a missing sign or a misplaced barrier in the interchange project helped cause it. The State must receive a written claim within six months, which leaves little time to gather the project’s records.
Why did a CHP officer from Baldwin Park handle my crash?
That office, on Francisquito Avenue in Baldwin Park, is the CHP area responsible for the 57/60 interchange, so its officers write the reports for Diamond Bar freeway collisions.
A big rig hit me on the 60. Is that different from a regular car crash?
Yes, in three ways:
- Trucking companies usually hold far higher insurance limits than private drivers.
- Federal rules require it to keep driver logs and inspection records, which are lost if no one asks for them in time.
- More than one company may share responsibility, such as the carrier and whoever loaded or maintained the truck.
I was hurt on Diamond Bar Boulevard, not the freeway. Who has the report?
A Sheriff’s deputy from the Walnut/Diamond Bar Station wrote it, and the Sheriff’s Department releases it; there is no Diamond Bar police records office to call.
This hour-by-hour guide is general information about Diamond Bar crashes. Treat it as a starting point rather than legal advice; a crash in the work zone or with a truck may call for different steps.
