Beverly Hills Personal Injury Attorney
Los Angeles County

In 2023, no California city of comparable size had more people hurt on its streets than Beverly Hills. State records count 611 people killed or injured, which placed the city first of 93 on the Office of Traffic Safety’s list, where first means worst (OTS). That is a striking number for a city of 30,764 residents (Census), and it informs how a Beverly Hills personal injury attorney prepares a case here.
Four first-place rankings in 2023
- Pedestrians injured: 46, worst of 93
- Pedestrians 65 and older: 11, worst of 93
- Motorcyclists: 38, worst of 93
- Speed-related crashes: 82, worst of 93
The sections below answer the questions people most often ask us after a crash on Wilshire, Santa Monica or La Cienega:
- How a city of 30,000 ranks first
- Streets the city has identified as high priority
- Pedestrians hurt near Rodeo or Beverly Gardens Park
- The BHPD report, the hospital and the proof
- Six months, two years and ten days

How a city of 30,000 ranks first
Why are the numbers so high?
Far more people drive, shop and walk in Beverly Hills than live there. For its 2023 rankings, OTS measured about 506,210 daily vehicle miles traveled within city limits, the kind of volume associated with a regional center. Hotel guests and Golden Triangle shoppers fill the sidewalks, and Westside commuters converge on Wilshire and Olympic.
| 2023 OTS category | Beverly Hills | Position (1 = worst) |
|---|---|---|
| All victims killed or injured | 611 | 1 |
| Alcohol-involved victims | 44 | 2 |
| Nighttime crashes (9 p.m.–3 a.m.) | 40 | 4 |
| Bicyclists | 19 | 7 |
| Hit-and-run crashes | 26 | 7 |
Was 2023 an unusual year?
No. Police reports from 2017 through 2022 already recorded 2,624 collisions, and 2,401 of them injured someone (City LRSP). Of those 2,401, just 52 left someone dead or gravely hurt, seven of them fatal. Most injury cases here therefore involve fractures, concussions and soft-tissue harm rather than catastrophic injury.
Streets the city has identified as high priority
The city’s first Local Road Safety Plan, updated in March 2026, sets a goal of zero fatal and severe-injury collisions by 2050. From six years of crash history, the plan identified a High Priority Network of five streets and 13 intersections.
Wilshire Boulevard had the most collisions of any street, with 359. Olympic Boulevard followed with 302, and its pattern of serious injuries earned it a place on the list. North Santa Monica Boulevard recorded 245, the highest severity-weighted rate in the city and the largest concentration of pedestrian and bicycle crashes; it is also a regional bikeway carrying up to about 300 riders a day. South Santa Monica Boulevard had the highest unweighted rate, with 132 collisions. La Cienega completed the list with 124, most of them unsafe-speed crashes on a street posted at 35 mph.
Sunset Boulevard is not on the list, although the plan’s speed survey measured the 85th-percentile driver at 41 mph in a 35 mph zone. Among intersections, the highest weighted rates are at Wilshire and both North and South Santa Monica, at Cañon and Rexford where they meet North Santa Monica, and at Clifton Way and La Cienega.
Tip: If you were hurt at one of these intersections, write down the direction each vehicle was traveling. Signal phasing differs by approach, and that detail often resolves a left-turn dispute.
Pedestrians hurt near Rodeo or Beverly Gardens Park
The safety plan found that 59% of pedestrian collisions occurred in a crosswalk at an intersection and another 20% while the pedestrian was in the roadway. Those crashes are concentrated on Robertson Boulevard, Cañon Drive and North Santa Monica Boulevard beside Beverly Gardens Park.
Being in a marked crosswalk does not end the question of fault, but it puts you in a strong position. California applies pure comparative fault: if a jury finds you 10% responsible for entering the crosswalk late, your award is reduced by 10%, and the driver’s insurer remains responsible for the rest (CACI 405).
Boutiques and hotels along Rodeo Drive and Beverly Drive often keep only a short loop of camera footage, so a written request to each one facing the corner should go out within days. If a driver turning off Robertson or Cañon says you stepped out too soon, our pedestrian accident page explains how that defense is tested. Hotel pickups also bring many rideshare drivers onto these blocks, and a driver logged into Uber or Lyft is covered by platform insurance in addition to a personal policy; our rideshare accident guide describes how that coverage works.
The BHPD report, the hospital and the proof
Who investigates a crash on Wilshire or Olympic?
Within city limits, a crash on Wilshire or Olympic is handled by officers of the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD). The California Highway Patrol’s West Los Angeles Area office, on Bristol Parkway in Culver City, lists Beverly Hills among the communities it serves (CHP). If the BHPD officer gives you a card, make sure the report number is written on it before the scene clears.
Which hospital treats serious injuries?
None of the sources we reviewed place a hospital emergency department within city limits. People with serious injuries are usually taken a short distance east to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 8700 Beverly Boulevard, a Level I trauma center (Cedars-Sinai) shown on the county’s trauma map (LA County EMS). Keep the ambulance report and your emergency room discharge summary, because those are the first records an adjuster reviews.
Will the High Priority Network help prove my claim?
Not directly. The plan notes that federal law (23 U.S.C. §148) protects highway-safety data compiled for these programs from discovery and from use at trial. Your claim must stand on its own evidence: the BHPD report, witness accounts, video, vehicle data and medical records.
The plan is still a useful guide to where evidence is likely to be found. On Sunset, the important proof usually concerns speed. A cyclist struck on North Santa Monica will need evidence of lane position and the door zone. Near the Metro D Line, where the Wilshire/La Cienega station opened on May 8, 2026 and the next section toward Rodeo and Century City is still under construction (Metro), lane shifts and flaggers may be part of what happened.
Watch out: Overnight crashes are a small share of the total, but the plan found they account for a larger share of severe and fatal collisions. Drunk driving follows the same pattern: about 3% of crashes but almost 15% of serious injuries and deaths (City of Beverly Hills). After a late-night crash, ask early about toxicology results and bar receipts.
Six months, two years and ten days
- Six months: the deadline to present a claim to a government entity, which applies if a Metro construction zone or a city-maintained signal contributed to the crash (Gov. Code §911.2).
- Two years: how long, as a rule, an injured person has to take the motorist responsible for a Wilshire or Olympic collision to court (CCP §335.1). Vehicle repair claims carry a longer limit, and minors are subject to separate timing rules.
- Ten days: the window for each driver in an injury crash to send Form SR-1 to the DMV, whatever the police report says (DMV).
Los Angeles County assigns each injury lawsuit to a courthouse according to where the incident took place (LASC General Order). A Beverly Hills crash falls in the West District, so these cases are generally filed at the Santa Monica Courthouse. The rule comes from General Order 2024-GEN-003-00, and the court’s online locator can confirm the district for a specific address.
What Call Jacob does in the first week
When we represent someone injured in Beverly Hills, The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) begins by requesting the BHPD or CHP report, sending preservation letters to the businesses facing the scene and gathering records from Cedars-Sinai or whichever hospital treated you. Once we are retained, the adjuster speaks with us, and no one should press you for a recorded statement in the days after you leave the hospital. When a Metro work zone or a city signal may be part of the story, we prepare the six-month government claim as well.
Insurance is often thinner than the injury. We therefore look beyond the at-fault driver’s bodily injury liability limit to any commercial or rideshare policy and to your own UM/UIM coverage, which matters in a city that OTS ranked seventh of 93 for hit-and-run crashes. Health plans that paid for treatment at Cedars-Sinai will expect reimbursement from any recovery, and we negotiate that figure before the settlement is distributed.
We handle cases for people injured in Beverly Hills on Wilshire, Olympic and North Santa Monica Boulevard, whether they were driving, walking, riding a motorcycle or bicycle, or traveling in a rideshare. We also represent families in wrongful death claims and people hurt in falls at local businesses. If travel is hard after the crash, we can come to your home or workplace; either way, our fee depends on a recovery, so you pay nothing unless we win. To discuss a Beverly Hills collision, call (888) 952-2952 for a free consultation or begin with our online case evaluator; drivers may also find our overview of car accident claims useful. Spanish-speaking hotel and restaurant workers hurt on these blocks can reach us through calljacob.com/es.
Motorcycles, older pedestrians and visitors
I was riding a motorcycle on Olympic. Are motorcycle injuries common here?
Yes, according to the state’s figures: no peer city had more injured motorcyclists in 2023. A Beverly Hills motorcycle accident attorney will look for helmet-camera footage and the other driver’s phone records; our motorcycle accident page covers the rest.
My mother is 72 and was hit near Beverly Gardens Park. Does her age matter?
Her age affects the evidence, not her rights. Older people often heal more slowly, so careful documentation of follow-up care is important when valuing pain and suffering and future medical expenses.
I am visiting and fly home next week. Can I still bring a claim?
Yes. The case remains in California wherever you live. Before you leave, collect the BHPD report number, your photographs and the names of any hotel employees who saw the crash.
The driver who hit me on Sunset was speeding. How is that proved?
Speed is usually proved with data from the car’s event data recorder, a reconstruction of the skid marks and crush damage, and any video recorded along Sunset. The city’s survey showing faster drivers at 41 mph provides context, but the case depends on the evidence from your own crash.
Do I need a Beverly Hills car accident lawyer if my injuries seem minor?
Not always. Whiplash and similar strains sometimes resolve within weeks. If the pain continues, treatment goes on longer than expected or the insurer disputes fault, a consultation costs you nothing.
