Anderson Personal Injury Attorney

Shasta County

The fatal crashes reported around Anderson in recent years have happened on Interstate 5 and Highway 273, roads that the city’s own crash statistics barely touch. People hurt there often start with assumptions about who has the report, how much time they have and whether a claim is worth pursuing. Below, each one is set beside what CHP reports, the state’s crash rankings and California law actually say, the same check an Anderson personal injury attorney runs before giving advice. City population: 11,131 (2025 estimate).

Assumptions about Interstate 5

“Anderson police will have my freeway report”

They will not. Interstate 5 collisions through Anderson belong to the CHP’s Redding Area office, number 135, at 2503 Cascade Boulevard in Redding (CHP). Two fatal freeway crashes show what that looks like. On March 17, 2021, a vehicle left I-5 near the Riverside Avenue off-ramp and came down on Riverland Drive, killing two people (KRCR). On February 12, 2023, an SUV rolled over on northbound I-5 just south of Deschutes Road, near the Anderson Outlets; one person died and two were flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding (KRCR). Both reports came from the CHP; an auto accident attorney in Anderson handling an I-5 case therefore writes to the Redding Area office, not to City Hall.

“Low city numbers mean safe roads”

OTS logged sixteen people hurt or killed in crashes that Anderson police handled in 2023; seventy-two cities in the same group of 103 did worse (OTS). Those figures exclude crashes on I-5 that the CHP investigates, which is why neither of the fatal freeway crashes above appears in them. A low city ranking says little about the interstate running through town.

OTS measure (2023)AndersonRank of 103
All victims1673
Composite—61
Hit-and-run crashes243
Alcohol-involved victims262
Child bicyclists under 15114

The 14th-place figure for young cyclists rests on a single injured child, and should be read as exactly that.

I was hurt near the Anderson Outlets on Deschutes Road. Who has the report?

Deschutes Road has both. The interchange ramps are CHP territory, while the city streets around the outlets belong to the Anderson Police Department.

Assumptions about Highway 273

“A pedestrian walking at night has no case”

Just before 3 a.m. on March 23, 2020, a pedestrian was struck and killed on northbound Highway 273 near Alexander Avenue. The Anderson Police Department investigated and said alcohol was not suspected (KRCR). About 4,036 people live in the urban unincorporated areas along Route 273 north of the city, so the highway serves a sizable population beyond the city limits (Anderson history).

Arguments about dark clothing or crossing outside a crosswalk go to the percentage of fault, and CACI 405 keeps the remainder of the claim alive. A family working with an Anderson pedestrian accident lawyer after a night collision should preserve the scene lighting evidence quickly. We represent families in these Highway 273 cases and ask the Anderson Police Department for its full investigative file, including scene photographs.

“A one-car crash leaves the passengers with nothing”

On July 11, 2024, a single vehicle crashed on Highway 273 at Happy Valley Road near Anderson and was found on fire; two people died and a passenger was seriously injured, according to the CHP (KRCR). Riders in that car are not left without recourse. Each injured passenger has a claim against the driver’s own liability policy, and the relatives of the two who died may bring wrongful death claims against that same coverage.

Does it matter that I was hit on Highway 273 outside city limits?

It changes who investigated, usually the CHP rather than city police, and which public entity, if any, is involved. It does not change your right to bring a claim.

Assumptions about drinking and enforcement

“Anderson’s DUI arrests mean more drunk drivers”

On the arrest line of the OTS report, Anderson’s 57 DUI arrests in 2023 sit at 90th of 103, a position that sounds alarming until you see how the scale works (OTS). For that measure the scale is reversed: rank 1 goes to the city with the fewest arrests. The arrest figure describes police enforcement, not the number of impaired drivers on the road. Only two people were hurt in alcohol-related crashes on Anderson streets, which OTS ranks 62nd.

“The criminal case will pay for my injuries”

A DUI prosecution decides guilt and punishment. Money for an emergency room bill, lost wages from missed shifts and the pain itself has to come from a separate civil claim, usually paid by the driver’s insurer on its own timeline.

Assumptions about deadlines and money

“Two years applies to every claim”

Talks with the other motorist’s insurer can run long, but if they stall, the lawsuit itself must be on file before the second anniversary of the crash (CCP §335.1). Public defendants get a far shorter window. A city sidewalk, a Shasta County road, a bus run by the Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA) or a Caltrans design problem on I-5 or Route 273 each starts a six-month clock for the written claim (Gov. Code §911.2).

“Trauma bills put a lawyer out of reach”

The 2023 rollover victims were flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, which CommonSpirit describes as one of the only Level II trauma centers north of Sacramento (Mercy). Air transport and trauma care are expensive, and health insurers and hospitals often assert liens against any recovery. Our fee is a contingency share, so the cost of a lawyer is never added to the hospital bills you already have.

The other driver had no insurance. What now?

Start with your own declarations page. An uninsured motorist line there means your own carrier steps into the shoes of the Anderson driver who had no policy, up to the limit you bought.

My child was hurt riding a bike in Anderson. Is the deadline different?

Yes, in part. The lawsuit deadline against a careless driver is paused while your child is a minor. The six-month notice to the City of Anderson, the school district or any other public body is not paused in the same way, so that is the date to watch.

Watch out: Some insurers send a release with the first payment offer. Signing it ends the claim, even if your injuries turn out to be worse than you knew.

Local institutions worth knowing

Sierra Pacific Industries, the lumber company, has its headquarters in Anderson (Anderson history). A collision with any company vehicle brings in commercial insurance and employer liability, and an Anderson truck accident lawyer looks first at the company’s driver and maintenance records. Anderson River Park, on the Sacramento River off Stingy Lane, added the River Splash water park in 2020; injuries at a park or other property are premises liability questions, with a six-month claim if the owner is public.

If the insurer will not pay what the claim is worth, the complaint goes to the Shasta County Superior Court (court site).

How Call Jacob represents Anderson clients

The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani (Call Jacob) represents Anderson residents, I-5 travelers and Highway 273 commuters who need an injury lawyer near Anderson, and we begin each Anderson case by obtaining the CHP Redding Area or Anderson Police Department report and the Mercy Medical Center records. Most of what comes to us from Anderson starts on I-5 or Route 273:

  • Car crashes on I-5 and Route 273
  • Commercial-truck collisions
  • Pedestrians struck at night
  • Bicycle crashes
  • Motorcycle crashes
  • DUI and hit-and-run cases
  • Property injuries
  • Wrongful death claims

An Anderson car accident lawyer will meet you wherever you are recovering, including Mercy in Redding, for a first meeting that carries no charge. (888) 952-2952 is the direct line. Messages left through the case evaluator get a call back from our office.

The answers to these myths are general information based on CHP crash coverage, OTS tables and the Government Code, and none of it is legal advice about your own collision.
